Day 1


Arrival to Iquitos and transfer to Hotel. Lunch, dinner (if your arrival flight permits) Overnight.
Day 2

Explorama Lodge

Transfer from the hotel to the Explorama dock. We will travel downstream on the Amazon River 80 km (49 miles) to reach Explorama Lodge where you can first watch the birds of the rainforest. If you take a walk around the Lodge, you can find the Black Fronted Nunbird and Trush-Like Wren. Near the stream where is the bar "Tahuampa" may be seen the Sunbittern or perhaps the Blue Parrot. After lunch, you will hike along the "Lake Trail" where we will see the Silvered Antbird and Pale-legged Hornero. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included. Overnight at he Explorama Lodge
Day 3

Bird Observatory

Early morning hike through the woods of the mainland, where it was discovered the highest diversity of tree species than anywhere else in the world. With luck, we may see a mixed flock of birds feeding over a column of ants. At times these flocks have over 40 species of birds. After breakfast you will return the same way to appreciate the Golden Headed Bearded Manakins. In the afternoon we will walk in the open along the banks of the Amazon where we will find the Black Hawk Necklaces, Capped Heron and three species of Kingfishers boat. We will also seek freshwater dolphins. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included Overnight at the Explorama Lodge
Day 4

Amazon and Napo Rivers

After breakfast we will take the Amazon and Napo Rivers to reach the ExplorNapo Reserve. The trails of the reserve abound with opportunities to observe unique birds in almost every rainforest habitat. This is the best place in the world to see rarities like the Nocturnal Currasow and the Red and Black Cotinga. In the evening you will enjoy a stroll in an open boat in search of caimans and frogs while listening to the night sounds of the jungle. If it is a clear night the overwhelming southern hemisphere stars will be in full view. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included. Overnight Explorama Lodge
Day 5

Napo River

Wednesday begins with early morning bird viewing via boat over t black water lakes. These lakes are often covered with giant Victories Regia, also known as water lilies, and many times the elusive Hoatzin can be viewed. In the afternoon we will take a boating excursion along one of the Napo tributaries where you can see other species of birds, sloths and perhaps fish for piranha. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, included. Overnight at the Explorama Lodge
Day 6

Amazon Center for Tropical Studies

In the morning we will walk to the Amazon Center for Tropical Studies (ACTS) Field and visit the suspension bridge over the treetops. The bridge has a height of over 35 meters and spans 500 meters long and gives a different and privileged basis of observation of the surrounding nature, including birds and mammals, as well as, some reptiles and insects. This bridge is suspended between 14 of the tallest trees at the ExplorNapo Reserve and is the longest in the world. In the afternoon we we will explore the "medicinal trail" where your guide will explain the uses of various plants along the trail. In the late afternoon sunset, the level of the bridge you can see the birds return to roost on the tops of the trees. At night there is the opportunity to discover some residents of the bridge. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, included. Overnight at the ACTS Field Station.
Day 7

Ceiba Tops

We will depart to the canopy walkway early enough to welcome the day from high in the treetops. You will experience unforgettable natural history experience by seeing flocks of mixed species are birds ranging from Motmots, Woodcreepers, Antbirds, Flycatchers, Barbets, Toucans and even the Red-Throated Caracara. After breakfast we will make make a trek up the Sucusari Gorge and board the boat to Ceiba Tops where you will lodge in air conditioned rooms with private bathrooms with hot water, a nice return back to civilization. After lunch, we will visit islands that were formed at different times by the Amazon River, which are the only habitats of some species of birds that live their entire lives on site. Returning to Ceiba Tops you will see the freshwater dolphins. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, included. Overnight at Ceiba Tops.
Day 8

Amazon River

Early morning walk to see birds walking in the at the giant Ceiba tree. Depending on your departure flight from Iquitos, there may be time for a walk in the Rio Amazonas open boat. Transfer to Iquitos for your departure flight. Breakfast, Lunch (if departure flight permits). (Your program can change depending on weather)
